A versatile and vibrant tenor, Christopher Plaas has entertained audiences throughout the United States and Europe. A native of Johnson City, TN, he earned his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at East Tennessee State University and his Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Appalachian State University. During his studies Christopher participated in a variety of ensembles and appeared in multiple fully staged productions with each university’s respective Opera Workshops. He also participated in internationally recognized opera studios with the Franco-American Vocal Academy in Salzburg, Austria and with the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, in Weimar Germany.
As a young professional singer, Christopher has been featured with the renowned young artist studios at the Indianapolis Opera, Teatro Nuovo, as well as the Tyler Young Artist Program at Opera on the James. Christopher's easy high notes, fluid coloratura, and vibrant timbre have earned him recognition as an ideal choice for the great tenor roles of Mozart, Rossini, and Donizetti. He has quickly become an in-demand soloist and has been featured with numerous symphony orchestras and opera companies spanning the US and Europe.
In January of 2025, Christopher became a full time member of the opera chorus with the Landesbühnen Sachsen in Radebeul Germany. In addition to his role as 1st tenor in he chorus the has appeared with them as Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Kaspar in Amahl und die Nacht Besuchers, and as Zweiter Priester/Geharnischter Mann in Die Zauberflöte.
Other significant performances to date include Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni with the Franco American Vocal Academy, Fenton in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor with Theater Rudolstadt in Rudolstadt, Germany , Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Scenic City Opera, Arturo Bucklaw in Knoxville Opera's production of Lucia di Lammermoor, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte and The Notary in Gianni Schicchi with Salt Marsh Opera, Alfredo Germont in La Traviata and Ernesto in Don Pasquale as well as Ramiro in La Cenerentola with Barn Opera, and Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Bel Cantanti Opera.
